How to use Unscramble Words.

A five-minute tour of every feature, written for people who just want their next high-scoring word. Skim the headings or read top to bottom — it’s all here.

  1. Step 1 — Enter your letters

    Type any combination of letters in the main input. You can use up to 40 characters, mixing real letters and wildcards freely.

    Case does not matter — the tool lowercases everything automatically. Special characters are stripped. If you paste a word, only the alphabetic parts survive.

  2. Step 2 — Use wildcards for blanks

    A ? or * stands for any single blank tile. Use as many as you want; each one adds one unknown letter to the pool.

    Example: TEST?? returns every word that can be made from T, E, S, T plus two blanks. Blanks are worth zero points in Scrabble scoring.

  3. Step 3 — Choose a dictionary

    Select Scrabble TWL (North American), SOWPODS (International Scrabble), Words with Friends, or Standard English.

    TWL and SOWPODS differ by thousands of words — if a friend in the UK sees a word you don’t, it’s likely a SOWPODS-only entry. WWF has its own quirks (EW and ZE are in, for instance).

  4. Step 4 — Layer filters to narrow results

    Open “Advanced filters” to combine starts-with, ends-with, contains, must-include, exact length, and min/max length — all at once.

    Every filter works on top of the others. For crossword help, try “contains” + an exact length. For bingos, set min length 7 and sort by points.

  5. Step 5 — Save or share your results

    Download as a plain-text file, copy every word to your clipboard, or generate a permanent share link.

    Share links preserve your letters, dictionary choice and filters, so the recipient sees the exact same result set when they open the link.

Tips and tricks from power users

Find bingos quickly

Set min length 7, sort by points descending, and scan the top five results.

Solve a crossword clue

Use the “contains” filter with the letters you already have from crossings, plus the clue length.

Plan WWF triple word plays

Sort by points, then scan for words that end in S — they pluralize into parallel plays.

Explore a tricky rack

Add two wildcards and see what’s theoretically possible. Then think about which tiles you actually have a chance to draw.
